Costume Clashes
|
Sexualized costumes of various professions — from maids to firefighters to referees — have been popular for many years. Perhaps at the top of that list are the “sexy nurse” costumes, of which there are many different versions, and Spain’s general nursing council has had enough. Similar to Canadian nurses’
plea last year, they are calling on retailers to stop selling these Halloween costumes because they damage the public perception of nursing and reinforce gender stereotypes. They also take issue with costumes that link violence with professions dedicated to saving lives (i.e., “zombie” and “killer” nurse costumes).

Help From the Feds
|
Federal support for nurse burnout is finally coming! The CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has launched its Impact Wellbeing campaign, which is intended to provide hospitals with resources to help them improve policies and practices to reduce burnout, normalize seeking
help, and strengthen wellbeing at work. These resources include a questionnaire to identify ways to improve worker wellbeing, a guide for hospital leaders to encourage staff to seek help if needed, and strategies to help staff achieve work-life balance.
