Framingham Nurses File Complaints Against Tenet |
Framingham Union Hospital nurses have filed complaints with state and federal agencies against Tenet Healthcare, citing unsafe staffing, poor policies, and management practices that endanger patient care. The nurses, represented by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, raised concerns about overcrowded emergency departments and unrealistic workloads, following similar
issues at other Tenet-owned hospitals we’ve told you about. Tenet has not responded to the allegations.

Despite being the most commonly performed invasive procedure in healthcare, the insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters have a failure rate of up to 50%. To correct this, the Association for Vascular Access has consolidated current standards of practice into a new document, offering a new guide for PIVC education, insertion, and care. Produced in collaboration with ECRI, the
Infusion Nurses Society, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the guidance has been endorsed by many professional healthcare organizations.

Whooping Cough Resurgence the Worst in Years |
Whooping cough cases in the US are surging at an alarming rate. The country saw 291 cases reported to the CDC for the week ending Sept. 14—the most cases reported in a single week since 2015. And so far this year, 14,569 infections have been reported, more than four times higher than the number reported by this time last year. Experts link the rise to less effective
vaccines and bacterial mutations, with many outbreaks driven by teens.

Even though utilization management is one of the most common remote nursing jobs, each role is probably more different than it is similar. Utilization review and management nursing involves reviewing insurance claims against a member’s benefit plan to determine their coverage.
Roles will differ depending on:
The state(s) where you are responsible for processing claims
The specialty of the claim
Whether the claim is pre-service, concurrent, or retrospective
Whether you are processing initial reviews, reconsideration reviews, or appeals
The line of business of the claim
The non-clinical and administrative work involved, like phone calls and faxes
Your team’s program(s)
Whether you are working on the treating provider side or insurance side of UM
How your team processes denials and authorizations
