A week after news broke that Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff bought $100 million worth of land on HawaiΚ»i Island, Benioff announced a donation of $150 million to Hilo Medical Center and HawaiΚ»i Pacific Health. A spokesperson claims Benioffβs actions have been benign, but the journalist who broke the news reported unusual behavior towards her from Benioff and that much of his purchases were for personal use, not philanthropy. While a boon for the regional healthcare system, Benioffβs actions mean billionaires now own 11% of private land in HawaiΚ»i, a state plagued by a generations-long housing crisis.Β

It turns out that attending a sports playoff at -4 degrees F with wind chills reaching -27 degrees F might not be the best idea. Following a bitter cold Kansas City Chiefs playoff game in January, several attendees are now facing the grim possibility of amputations due to severe frostbite. Approximately half of the 69 emergency calls during the game were
hypothermia-related. Worse yet, some 70% of frostbite patients seen post-game are now advised for potential amputations, with the remaining 30% likely enduring lifelong complications.Β
