Inhospitable Greenhouse Gasses

To fight climate change within the healthcare sector, which contributes some 8.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the federal health department may require hospitals to report their emissions for the first time. A Medicare proposal aims to gather emissions data from select hospitals to provide feedback and support for emission reduction efforts. The Inflation Reduction Act offers financial incentives to help hospitals, which account for 36% of healthcare emissions, become more environmentally friendly.

Voting Access = Health

Leaders from the American College of Physicians have highlighted the direct impact of voting access on patient health. At the ACPโ€™s annual scientific meeting, they emphasized the need for equitable voting access and the importance of keeping health and healthcare at the forefront of election issues. The ACP is actively working to overcome barriers to voting, such as lack of identification, language proficiency, and transportation challenges, through partnerships like VotER, which aims to assist healthcare professionals in patient voter registration.ย

Alarming Bird Flu Risk

The spread of H5N1 bird flu is a serious global health issue, the World Health Organization warned. Since 2020, outbreaks have caused the deaths of tens of millions of poultry, with recent cases of the virus spreading to various mammal species, including domestic cattle in the US, increasing the risk of spillover to humans. H5N1 has a mortality rate of over 50% in human cases, making the development of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics for H5N1 โ€” and increasing equitable access to these resources globally โ€” all the more crucial.

Fostering Post Traumatic Growth

Trauma is a pervasive problem. It is spread throughout and can be seen and felt everywhere. It strips us of internal safety, which is the underpinning of wellness. Wellness supports our capacity for regulation. Regulation enables us to reconnect with life, anchor in nervous system flexibility, and intentionally foster post traumatic growth.

Post traumatic growth is both a term and theory used to describe positive psychological changes that occur as we face, process, and work through trauma at a slow, non-linear, ever-evolving pace. It is not intended to deny or diminish your experience; rather, it is a framework for living.ย

Join DTFL April CE Workshop, Fostering Post Traumatic Growth, as we explore, discuss, and meet the layers of what it means to be a nurse while:
