Given the growing nursing shortage, you’d expect nursing schools to be bursting at the seams. The real picture is more complicated, according to a recent American Association of Critical-Care Nurses report. Enrollment in entry-level BSN programs is up slightly by 0.3%, a welcome increase after last year’s drop. However, enrollment in RN-to-BSN programs fell by almost 10%, master’s program enrollment fell by 1%, and Ph.D. program enrollment fell by 3.1%. The AACN is investigating why.

Disregarding Violence |
The problem of workplace violence against nurses cannot be overstated, and National Nurses United found in February that the problem is still growing. But a new report by Vivian Healthcare reveals even
more dispiriting news: far too many employers aren’t doing anything about it. In a survey of 863 clinicians, 25% saw more workplace violence this year than last — but 48% said their employer hadn’t taken steps to protect the staff, and 43% ignored the complaint entirely. Guess how many sided with the perpetrator?

No Self-Harm Risk |
While GLP-1 agonist medications like semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) have revolutionized non-surgical obesity treatment, they have side effects like any other
drug. Fortunately, suicidal ideation is not one of them, according to a review of the evidence by the European Medicines Agency. The FDA had already concluded in January that no link existed. Still, the EMA conducted a thorough nine-month investigation after concerns arose regarding self-harm in people taking the medications.
