Good Morning Readers, |
This year has been a whirlwind of growth and exciting announcements. As always, our mission is to not only promote our business but to deliver real value to you, our community.
Last night, while making my favorite soup, I found myself reflecting on the past two years and my journey with Hannah Berns. Not long ago, we were both working in the ER, living together during the pandemic, and feeling the weight of burnout and uncertainty.
Fast forward to today, building this company for you—a space where your voices are amplified—has been one of the most rewarding chapters of our lives. Your emails, stories, and unwavering support fuel us.
So, thank you. This is your Beat. Your Voice. Our Future.

Nurses Speak Up on Policy |
Are you looking for more ways to have your voice heard in Washington on policy affecting nurses and the profession overall? The American Nurses Association has launched the new Nurses Action
Society, an initiative aimed at increasing engagement between ANA members and federal officials. One goal of the organization is to “equip nursing advocates with the tools, resources, and exclusive opportunities needed” to be effective—and the ANA wants your input. Take their survey here.

FDA Taking Action on UPFs |
The data on the health harms of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are overwhelming, from increasing the risk of cancer to increasing cardiovascular risk—even when the foods are plant-based. But while experts writing U.S. dietary guidelines aren’t addressing UPFs (yet), the FDA is already taking action. While researchers strive to learn why UPFs are harmful (and which ones), the FDA is convening a two-day workshop on next steps. It’s also working on sodium reduction targets and updating “healthy” food labeling definitions.

First U.S. Case of Mpox Strain |
The Democratic Republic of Congo and several nearby Eastern African countries have been battling an outbreak of a new strain of mpox since summer. Now the first U.S. case has been reported in
California in an individual who traveled from Eastern Africa. The CDC’s assessment of risk of further transmission in the U.S., however, remains low, and no person-to-person transmission of the new strain has occurred so far in the U.S.

Navigating the Holidays in Healthcare |
The holidays bring more than cheer—they bring stress, clashes over values, and the inevitable “Can you look at my rash?” requests. With a polarized election season impacting healthcare and simmering tensions around the dinner table, here’s how to navigate:
Choose your boundaries. You can honor your family while keeping your peace and principles. Decide when to opt in—or out. Read more on setting boundaries.
Find community. Lean on people who get it, like fellow healthcare workers navigating similar conversations. Find spaces where you can come together.
Prioritize collective care. The holidays can add extra responsibilities, and be isolating for those working or away from loved ones. Engaging in mutual aid can help both you and your community.
For a full guide to collective care over the holidays, with lots of practical tips, check out this free resource. And remember, we’re in this together.
