Team TNB is in Los Angeles covering press at the ViVE conference. This week, follow along as we bring you all things live from ViVE.
We kicked off the conference with an intimate meet up hosted by Joey Ferry and Taofiki Gafar-Schaner of 20+ nursepreneurs all dedicated to challenging the status quo of healthcare.
We then went straight into the Nurses @ Vive Insights program with incredible panelists discussing all things nurse-led innovation, reducing administrative burden, and training to meet the
evolving demands of nursing.
What has been the common theme thus far of the Nurses @ ViVE? There are many problems in healthcare that can be fixed with the right solution. And nurses are here to be the catalyst for change.
In the wise words of Bonnie Clipper, "{Healthcare} is the Flintstones trying to be the Jetsons. We have a long way to go.”

Stealing Wages |
Nurses at Ascension Saint Joseph-Joliet filed a lawsuit alleging the
hospital failed to pay them for extra shifts worked in November 2023. Despite agreements for incentive pay, the hospital refused to compensate as promised, citing the nurses' strike as a reason to withhold payment, which the Illinois Nurses Association claims violates wage laws. Ascension argues that the nurses were paid per their contract and
disputes the validity of the lawsuit. Earlier this month, the nurses held their third strike in the past year.

Granting Innovation |
Got an idea to help improve the nursing workforce? The AACN Critical Care, in partnership with AARP and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, is offering grants for innovative projects focused on improving nursing workforce diversity and fostering healthy work environments. Projects should align with the National Academy of Medicine and AACN standards recommendations. Proposals are due by April 5, 2024, with awards of up to $25,000.

Look at local health systems and employers’ career pages for job postings. They can be terrible at putting together job descriptions that include the location. Nurses often discover after applying for what looked like an on-site role that it is hybrid or remote. They never would have known had they not applied.
My thoughts? If you see roles with vague or missing location requirements for roles like utilization review, utilization management, data abstraction, clinical
documentation integrity, nurse care navigator, nurse educator, triage, case management, etc. Apply!
