Itβs Mystery Diagnosis Monday and this one might be a familiar to our surgical and neurosurgical nurses.
🤔 This skeletal disorder occurs when one or more cervical vertebrae are congenitally fused together.Β
🤔 Patients may have an unusually short neck and restricted movement of the head and neck areas.Β
🤔 While this primarily affects the head and neck region, this disease can cause anomalies in other body systems, including the cardiac and renal systems.

Invest in Nurses |
A new study found that hospitals can improve their patient experience scores (HCAHPS) by investing in nurses. Researchers analyzed scores from more than 500 hospitals in California, Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, finding that hospitals that provided better work environments, more education and training for nurses, and appropriate staffing levels for nurses had higher patient
satisfaction scores. Nurse participation in hospital affairs also strongly affected scores. Find out which nurse-related factors did not.

1-Day Strike |
More than 40 medical technicians held a one-day strike at MarinHealth Medical Center in California to protest low wages and benefits. The National Union of Healthcare Workers, representing
107 medical technicians, has been negotiating a new contract since last October. The union is asking for a 20% raise over five years compared with the hospitalβs 2.5% annual raise offer. The union says that many technicians cannot afford to live in Marin County on their current wages and that the hospital is losing staff because of low pay.

THAT REMOTE LIFE WITH NURSE FERN |
Is Remote Nursing Sustainable? |
Here are some current trends weβre seeing in remote nursing jobs and remote work in general.
Itβs much more competitive to land a remote role. Itβs hard to find data on remote nursing jobs (we probably should have kept better stats at Nurse Fern!) but what we are seeing is that more nurses are looking for a break from bedside, without a large increase in remote job openings, which equals more competition for whatβs
available.Β
Now that βreturn to officeβ is possible on a large scale, many companies that had only been posting remote now have hybrid options available.Β
Due to supply and demand, Itβs taking longer to get noticed by employers.
Having a stand out resume, LinkedIn profile (yes, nurses are on there!), and keeping up to date on the industry and employers you want is key to success
in the application process.
