Fight Depression with βSense Foragingβ |
Letβs face it: modern life keeps us distracted, avoiding uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. Our mental health worsens when we shut down our sensory processing and get lost in negative thoughts and emotions. But staying connected to physical sensations through a practice called βsense foragingββwhich may be familiar if youβve practiced mindfulness
meditationβcan improve well-being by breaking the cycle of rumination. By focusing on our sensory experiences, we can restore emotional balance and reduce feelings of burnout and hopelessness.

Corewell Nurses Push for Unionization |
Around 30 Corewell Health nurses marched to the National Labor Relations Board in Detroit, delivering thousands of signed cards to support unionizing 9,600 nurses across eight hospitals. They aim to join the Michigan Teamsters to negotiate better staffing, job protections, wages, and benefits. If successful, the pushβwhich follows a similar rally held back in Mayβwould create one of the largest registered nurse unions in Michigan.

Period Poverty on the Rise
Β |
New research shows that a third of U.S. teens and young adultsβup from 1 in 4 to 5 individuals in previous studiesβface βperiod poverty,β lacking access to menstrual products. Of 1,816 surveyed, 32.9% reported using unsafe alternatives like rags due to affordability issues. Other research has linked period poverty to depression in college-age women. Some states
are now mandating free menstrual products in schools. As a nurse, you can help by asking more specific questions about your young patientsβ menstrual experiences.

Tired of Making Decisions? |
As nurses we are constantly assessing this, prioritizing that, and deciding a million things. Then, you come home and someone asks you whatβs for dinnerβ¦ and you literally wanna scream. Been there?
Here are some tips to feel less overwhelmed:
1.Β Β Β Simplify life. What can you outsource or delegate? My fave is doing grocery pickup and saving my go-to items to my online list.
2.Β Β Β Loosen the grip. Say βοΈto smaller decisions and give them away to othersβlike picking what takeout to get or choosing a movie. It's okay to take a break from being in charge.
3.Β Β Β Make decisions for your future self. Make life easier by prepping meals, setting up your work bag, or packing scrub snacks the night before. Small decisions now mean less stress later.
4.Β Β Β Take micro-breaks. Feel like you donβt have time? Take 5 minutes to breathe, eat, pee, or just check in with yourself.Β Β How are you really? What do you really need?
