FDA Psychedelic Rejection

An FDA advisory panel found that the evidence for using MDMA to treat PTSD is insufficient, citing data gaps, abuse potential, and trial misconduct allegations. They voted 9–2 against its effectiveness and 10–1 against its benefits outweighing risks, delivering a significant setback for MDMA's approval for PTSD treatment. Despite patient testimonials of positive effects and promising research results, concerns about trial design, ethical issues, and the lack of comprehensive data on the drug's effects and safety remained.

Cancer Care Denial

Lifepoint Health’s Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM, stands accused of denying cancer patients care or demanding upfront payments from both insured and uninsured patients. Lifepoint, backed by Apollo Global Management, changed its indigent care policy in 2023 to exclude cancer treatments without formal written notification to local officials. Lifepoint and the hospital's CFO deny the allegations, asserting their commitment to community health. The situation raises concerns about private equity's impact on healthcare costs and quality, with Lifepoint under Senate investigation, though Memorial has not received related requests.
