âď¸ Happy FriYAY TNB fam!Â
We made it to the weekend! For some, itâll be a nice, long, and restful respite from the daily grind as we celebrate the Memorial Day holiday on Monday. For others, itâs the long haul into the first summer holiday.Â
Whether youâre off or on shift, itâs important that we all stop and remember the importance of Memorial Day and the sacrifices our armed forces have made to ensure our freedom
here in the US.Â
Have a wonderful holiday weekend, and be safe out there!
Team TNBÂ
P.S:Â We want to send a big HELLO 👋to our new readers who attended the NTI Critical Care conference in Philly this week! It was so fun to meet everyone in person. A big shoutout goes to
Vianney R. from Miami, FL who won a $500 Airbnb giftcard from connectRN! Enjoy your vacay. 😎

Nursing Students Learn How to Stop Hospital Violence Before It Starts
Before they can graduate, students at the University of New Englandâs School of Nursing and Population Health
are now required to take a violence awareness certification course. The course encompasses the De-escalation module of MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) Training International, which covers recognizing, reducing, and managing aggressive behavior. In addition, it teaches students about situational awareness and how to look for nonverbal clues â such as body language and eye communication â indicating that something might be about to happen.

St. Charles Bend Nurses in Oregon Authorize Strike
The Oregon Nurses Association, representing 962 nurses at St. Charles Bend Medical Center, has overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike. The union has been in

Earlier this month, the nurses filed a series of unsafe staffing complaints with the Oregon Health Authority, claiming the hospital doesnât meet safe staffing standards, provide meal breaks, and more

Chronic Pain Detected in Brain Scans
Recordings collected three to six months from patients with refractory neuropathic pain who had intracranial electrodes implanted have shown, for the first time, chronic pain in the brain. By comparing patientsâ reported pain levels and times with the recordings, researchers found that chronic pain states mainly were associated with activity changes in the orbitofrontal cortex. Functional MRIs have previously shown acute pain activity in the anterior cingulate cortex and orbitofrontal cortex regions. The finding may one day lead to effective, non-addictive pain treatments.

Letâs face it; pen lights are boring. Luckily, we have a much cuter option to save the day, and itâs even become a viral hit with night shift and pediatric nurses alike! This turtle light still gives an excellent glow for
checking on patients in the middle of the night while adding an air of much-needed cuteness!

Three Ways Burnout Costs Nurses Money
As nurses, we know burnout can be all too real. But did you know it can affect your finances?Â
Here are three ways burnout is costing you cash:
Impacts on job performance: We are less likely to seek promotions, raises, and different career paths. This helpless âstuckâ feeling limits your career upside and your ability to make more money.
Impulse buys: Have you ever filled your Amazon cart, frequented Doordash, or splurged with some retail therapy? These bad habits can affect everyone but show up more when burned out.Â
You avoid sticking to a plan: It takes a little discipline and mindfulness to monitor spending, implement a budget, and watch your accounts. Burnout puts all personal, professional, and financial plans on the back burner.Â
The solution? Find a job that empowers you, a community that energizes you, and work towards a side hustle, financial wellness, or somewhere in between! We can help!
