Live Longer Through Gratitude

There’s a simple way to improve your physical and emotional health and even extend your lifespan: practicing gratitude. A study of nearly 50,000 older women found that those with higher gratitude levels had a 9% lower risk of death from any cause. Experts suggest practicing gratitude through journaling, writing thank-you letters, and specific expressions of thanks to enhance well-being and improve relationships. The study emphasizes gratitude’s powerful impact on happiness, health, and overall life balance.

Houston Hospitals in Internal Disaster

After record-breaking Hurricane Beryl, Houston area hospitals and health facilities are severely impacted by prolonged power outages and extreme heat. Many are in a state of β€œinternal disaster,” and over 40 dialysis clinics are struggling to operate. Officials have been distributing generators and creating overflow beds in an indoor sports stadium to cope with the crisis. Many nursing homes and assisted living facilities are relying on portable A/Cs and generators to protect vulnerable residents. The outages and heat have led to life-threatening situations, including deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning and medical equipment failures.

Bubonic Plague Reported

Pueblo County, Colorado has reported a case of bubonic plague of unknown origin. Plague, caused by Yersinia pestis and treated with antibiotics, spreads through flea bites or contact with infected animals, causing swollen lymph nodes, fever, and chills. It can turn into the more severe pneumonic plague, which has not been seen in the U.S. since 1924. Health officials advise immediate medical attention for symptoms, avoiding rodents and using insect repellent.
