Former Nurse Charged for Harming NICU Infants |
Henrico Doctorsβ Hospital in Richmond, Va., suspended NICU admissions after discovering three infants with unexplained fractures in November and December 2024βinjuries similar to those four infants suffered in summer 2023. Investigators charged Erin Elizabeth Ann Strotman, an Henrico nurse, with malicious wounding and felony child abuse. The hospital and police are investigating the matter, including by reviewing past cases and NICU footage.

Surgeon General Wants to Update Alcohol Warning Labels |
Itβs been more than 35 years since the warning labels on alcohol have been updated, and U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy thinks itβs time to add cancer risksβwhich half the population don't know aboutβto the labels. Studies suggest that detailed, colorful labels like those used for cigarettes can raise awareness and reduce consumption. Experts advise adding clear health warnings and improved serving size info, as well as regularly updating labels to better inform consumers and encourage healthier choices.

Aspiring Nurse Among NOLA Terrorist Attack VictimsΒ |
On New Year's Day, a man barreled his truck down New Orleans's Bourbon Street in an βact of terrorism,β killing 15 people and injuring dozens. Eighteen-year-old Nikyra Cheyenne Dedeaux from Mississippi, who was enrolled in a nursing program at Blue Cliff College, was one of the pedestrians killed. Her mother, Melissa Dedeaux, described her as a bright, loving βball of sunshine,β and her family remember her as kind, outgoing, and always surrounded by friends.
