Walking is a simple, low-impact exercise with major health benefits, including better heart health, fitness, and reduced risk of chronic diseases. Walking speed is considered a vital signβfaster walkers tend to have stronger muscles, improved coordination, and better cognitive health. Get in at least 150 minutes of brisk walking every weekβalong with two days of muscle-strengthening activitiesβto improve your fitness and overall well-being. Different walking styles, like interval or mindful walking, can further boost endurance, reduce stress, and improve strength.

Cigarette Package Warnings Blocked |
A Texas judge blocked the FDA from enforcing a rule requiring 11 graphic health warnings on cigarette packages, siding with tobacco companies like R.J. Reynolds. Trump-appointed Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled the FDA exceeded its authority by adding warnings beyond the nine required by the 2009 Tobacco Control Act. This delays the ruleβs February 2026 start date, marking
Barkerβs second time blocking the mandate.

Poorer Nurse Staffing in Black-Serving Hospitals |
Hospitals serving a larger percentage of Black patients (high Black-serving hospitals or BSHs) have worse nurse staffing levels, with nurses handling 6β7% more patients than in other hospitals, a new study shows. Since 70% of Black patients are treated in these facilities, this disparity worsens patient outcomes for already vulnerable populations. The study builds on
previous findings that Black patients are more impacted by poor nurse staffing. The story is also concerning for nursesβduring the pandemic, the percentage of nurses experiencing moral distress was twice as high in BSHs.
