Nurse Jennifer Triplett from Blowing Rock, NC, was named a Hyundai Hometown Hero—and was gifted a new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe—for her selfless efforts in helping her community recover from Hurricane Helene. She tirelessly secured and distributed essential donations like furniture and cold-weather gear to displaced families. Her work, which began in Avery County, has expanded to other areas and sparked the budding creation of a crisis-aid nonprofit, the Local Roots Project.

Woman Arrested for Threatening Health Insurer |
Briana Boston of Florida was arrested after allegedly making threats during a call with her health insurer, Blue Cross Blue Shield, following a claim denial. Boston’s remarks—“Delay, deny, depose. You people are next.”—mirrored language linked to the recent shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Boston apologized, but called healthcare companies “evil” and
deserving of “karma,” echoing the public’s online rage towards insurers in recent days. Police stated she does not own firearms and is not a threat.

Trio Stole Millions from NJ Nursing Homes |
Three men—Mordechay Weisz, Steven Krausman, and Michael Konig—were barred from being Medicaid providers after a New Jersey investigation revealed they diverted $253 million from nursing homes into personal accounts while neglecting residents. Facilities like South Jersey Extended Care and Sterling Manor were plagued by unsanitary conditions, abuse, and poor care, earning consistent one-star federal ratings. Konig, previously barred from opening nursing homes in other states, controlled operations behind figurehead Weisz.

It’s time for another round of the Mystery Diagnosis Minute! We’re going to keep going with our December topic of those tricky illnesses we see flare up during the winter months. (Fun fact: today’s diagnosis is one that was first seen in the region near my hometown!)
🤔 This disorder is lumped together with a group of viruses that cause patients to have severe nausea and vomiting.
🤔 The inflammation that this causes to the gastrointestinal system is caused by viruses that are a part of the Calciviridae species.
🤔 The symptomology is usually the same for both children and adults. However, adults may have more episodes of diarrhea whereas children may have more vomiting.
