Fungal Infections Increasing Since Pandemic
Hospitalizations from fungal infections have increased by 8.5% each year from 2019-2021, primarily from infections due to yeasts and molds, according to a study in Emerging Infectious Diseases. Fungal infection deaths have also increased during the pandemic. Part of the uptick appears related to Covid-19 since the disease is a risk factor for certain fungal infections, probably because of how the virus impacts the immune system and some medications, such as steroids, used to treat Covid-19.

Read how Spencer, a nurse at North Hollywood’s Providence St. Elizabeth Care who lives across the street from the accident, rushed to help.
