Good Morning, Readers! |
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It is estimated that over 360,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and, unfortunately, it can happen to anyone. Many of us—myself included—know at least one person who has been affected by breast cancer.
Remembering to perform monthly breast exams and knowing the signs and
symptoms to watch for are keys to early detection. We always want our patients to prioritize their health…but please don’t forget to prioritize yours, too.

Progress for All |
Nearly 8 in 10 nurses report having either experienced or witnessed racism from patients or co-workers. But the new documentary “Everybody’s Work: Healing What Hurts Us All” shows how advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion can address racism and benefit all
nurses and patients. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the film focuses on DEI progress at The University of California Davis School of Nursing. Check out the film trailer and website, and learn how to host a private screening.

Left Behind—and Hurting |
A crisis of post-traumatic stress syndrome is occurring among nurse aids and other low-paid healthcare workers—and they’re not getting the help they desperately need, according to a feature in KFF Health News. More than 3,600 U.S. healthcare workers died of COVID in the first year of the pandemic, and the physical and psychological scars of that trauma continue to haunt up to a third of those left behind. The problem will take multiple steps to solve.

Staying Organized with NotebookLM |
If you're looking for a way to organize your study materials or streamline research for an advanced degree or certification, I’ve recently learned about NotebookLM.Â
Developed by Google, it’s an AI-powered assistant for your notes. When you upload documents, it summarizes key points, answers questions, and even generates insights based on what you've uploaded.
I've been exploring how it can help nurses—especially those of us working on certifications or advanced degrees—and I’ve found it takes the chaos out of studying. Instead of flipping through countless pages, you can ask NotebookLM specific questions and get instant, concise answers.Â
It’s not perfect, but for consolidating research or preparing for exams, it can be genuinely useful—whether you're deep in study mode or just want a smarter way to organize your thoughts.. Give it a look here (Google account required).
