Helping a Hoarder |
Hoarding affects up to 6% of Americans, who feel compelled to accumulate possessions and experience distress at the thought of discarding them. Helping someone who hoards involves understanding their perspective, gently encouraging change, and offering practical support. This might include organizing items, utilizing storage units, and seeking professional help to address underlying issues. Patience, empathy, and collaboration are key in assisting individuals with hoarding disorder on their journey to recovery.
