Tackling the Shortage |
Representatives have introduced two federal bills aimed at helping address the nursing shortages faced by multiple states. The Stop Nurse Shortages Act, introduced by Reps. Haley Stevens and Dave Joyce, would create a federal grant program aimed at establishing or expanding accelerated degree programs. The National Urgent Recruitment for Skilled Employees (NURSE) Visa Act, introduced by Rep. Don Beyer, would add 20,000 non-immigrant visas per fiscal year for nursing positions where a shortage and a
provider-to-patient staffing ratio exist.

Three more bird flu cases in Colorado poultry workers brings the total human infections for the disease up to 13, with 10 of those taking place in Colorado. The CDC is currently labeling the cases as “H5”, until they finish sequencing the virus to see what type it is. One of these cases, previously “presumptive positive,” occurred in someone culling poultry infected with a virus that’s genetically similar to the one in the dairy cows that has so far infected 51 Colorado herds.

Leadership Styles Explained |
As nurse managers, our leadership style has a profound impact on our teams. In reflecting on my own leadership style, I’m reminded of the Full Range Leadership Model. In a nutshell, the three key leadership styles are:
👐 Laissez-Faire Leadership: Lots of freedom, good for experienced teams, but can cause confusion and lower productivity.
🔄 Transactional Leadership: Focuses on rules, rewards, and feedback; ensures productivity, but sometimes limits creativity.
🌟 Transformational Leadership: Inspires and motivates with empathy and vision, leading to higher engagement and performance.
Reflect on your daily management style. Which one comes naturally to you? Do you utilize the full range to effectively lead? Identifying and adapting your leadership style can enhance team satisfaction and, ultimately, patient care outcomes. Let me know your thoughts here.
