Many people associate salmonella with raw or undercooked eggs, poultry, or meat, but another surprisingly common source is pet reptiles. In fact, the CDC is currently investigating a salmonella outbreak linked to pet bearded dragons, the “golden retriever of the reptile world,” because they’re so docile. So far, 15 cases in 9 states have been identified, mostly in children, but there have only been four hospitalizations and no deaths.
