HUDDLE

Hey-O Nursing Beat Friends!

Today’s spooky diagnosis might have you believe you’ve met one of the Na’vi from Avatar if you see this condition up close. Methemoglobinemia is a disorder that causes the person with it to have bright blue skin. What causes it? The person’s body overproduces methemoglobin, which is a type of hemoglobin. Unfortunately, this causes inappropriate oxygen delivery to the body, resulting in a lovely blue skin tint, purple-tinged lips, and brown blood rather than red. Other cases can be caused by exposure to chemicals or ingestion of certain drugs.

ICN Condemns Gaza Hospital Bombing

The International Council of Nurses released a statement condemning the recent Gaza hospital bombing, specifically attacks against healthcare personnel and facilities. The ICN called on governments and combatants to respect international humanitarian laws that protect healthcare workers, saying that the β€œviolation of health worker rights is both a health and humanitarian crisis.” The condemnation comes on the heels of other statements calling on all parties to respect and protect access to health care and ensure the safety of civilians and health workers.

US Nursing Satisfaction Ranking

We all know the US healthcare system is no exemplary model especially considering how healthcare is received wildly changes depending on locale β€” as does the satisfaction of nurses working there. A new β€œNursing Satisfaction Index” analyzed some 150,000 nurse reviews on Glassdoor working at 200 of the largest US health systems to see which health systems nurses like best. Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor and Houston (Texas) Methodist tied with the highest satisfaction scores, and Ballad Health in Johnson City, Tenn came in last.Β

THAT REMOTE LIFEΒ WITH NURSE FERN

Pet Peeves About Remote Nursing

We’ve been around long enough at Nurse Fern to be well acquainted with some of the less desirable parts of the remote nurse job search, including:

  • Overwhelm over finding openings if you aren’t part of the nurse compact.

  • Job postings that advertise non-remote as remote or require a potential future return to the office.

  • Remote companies lowballing nurses, knowing that some are desperate to leave the bedside.

All this can make it feel like it isn’t worth it. We can assure you that while this sucks, you aren’t aloneβ€”And being part of a community like Nurse Fern can help it suck a little less because there are employers who value your knowledge, time, and energy. We’re here to help you find the right remote nursing job with a touch of emotional support.
