Shortage Schmortage? |
Many recent articles have lamented the growing nursing shortage, which the American Hospital Association estimated last year would reach 1.1 million at the end of 2022. But is there a shortage, or, as National Nurses United claims, simply a shortage of nurses willing to work in the subpar conditions hospitals offer while prioritizing profits? (Hence all the recent strikes.) Both are a bit right, argues a STAT feature that digs into the nuances of this issue.

Brain Fog Clues |
Scientists have been learning more and more recently about the brain fog associated with long Covid. A new study has offered one more clue about what might cause it — depleted serotonin levels throughout the body, not just the brain. The low serotonin levels may also be linked to excessive blood clotting and the nervous system’s difficulty
controlling basic body processes like heart rate and blood pressure. Both STAT and the New York Times have more details.
