Good Morning, Readers!

The word β€œresiliency” has been a buzz word in nursing for a long time. And while I could probably give my own TED Talk about my feelings on the term, I’d like to hear from you:

What are your thoughts on resiliency in nursing? From your experience, does resiliency training actually work or is it just a bandaid for the real issues in healthcare?

Let me know here.

VNA Partnership Aims to Transform Digital Healthcare Delivery

Virtual Nursing Academy (VNA) has announced the launch of the first nationwide standardized virtual nursing education framework aimed at transforming healthcare delivery through virtual nursing initiatives. VNA will be working with the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing (AMSN), the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB), the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD), and the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN). These partnerships will impact over 93,000 nurses across the country by supporting virtual nursing certification, and co-creating nursing professional development courses to build and sustain virtual nursing models and specialized curricula for perioperative care.*

Possible NP, PA Scope of Practice Expansion

Nurse practitioners and physician assistants may soon join those with the practice authority to read chest x-rays of employees participating in health surveillance programs, such as the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health’s Coal Worker's Health Surveillance Program. Those qualified to read these x-rays, called B readers, currently include only 184 physicians in 35 states, but the CDC is considering expanding access to the B Reader training to NPs and PAs, given the anticipated shortage in U.S. physicians.

Misleading Sales of GLP-1 Drugs

The FDA has allowed sales of compounded semaglutide and tirzepatideβ€”the active ingredients of GLP-1 drugs Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro/Zepboundβ€”while those drugs had shortages. But compounded versions still aren’t FDA-approved, something more than a third of sellers implied anyway, according to a recent study. Worse, nearly half of online retailers of these compounded drugs didn’t provide information on side effects, warnings, or contraindications, and four in 10 made effectiveness claims that lack evidence.
