Safety-less in Seattle |
After 15 failed bargaining sessions, the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) could not wait any longer for better safety measures for nurses at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. About 650 nurses
from the hospital picketed outside the hospital Tuesday to demand improved protection against workplace violence that has also led to staffing shortages. The picket comes after one nurse was stabbed in the face with a butter knife and another nearly took a blow to the head from a claw hammer.

Heroes in the Wild |
Two nurses from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle were in the right place at the right time for a hiker who fell off the Stuart Lake Trail about 70 miles west of Seattle. Chelan County Mountain Rescue retrieved the hiker after the nurses tended to his injuries and sent a message for help on an inReach satellite communicator. Trauma nurse Sandy Montanya commented on the rescue Facebook post that it was a privilege to be there to help.
