NP Practice Bill in Mississippi

Not to be left behind, legislators in Mississippi are hoping their state will become the 28th one to give nurse practitioners full practice authority. State Rep. Donnie Scoggin introduced House Bill 98, which would exempt NPs from the requirement of working with a physician after they have 3,600 hours of practice. CRNAs would earn their exemption after 8,000 practice hours. Supporters hope the bill will help with ongoing physician shortages in Mississippi.

Nurse Invents New Catheter

Katelyn Holt, a cardiac RN in Providence, Rhode Island, had an unlikely source of inspiration for an invention: those finger trap toys that hold on more tightly as you pull away your fingers. It came to her while driving home from work as she tried to think up a better way to address male incontinence than existing catheters and diapers. She patented her idea in 2020 and two years later started KT Innovations, which launches the KT Cath this year.

What’s Worse? Covid vs. Flu vs. RSV

According to a new study from the VA of the past two seasons, it’s Covid-19 for both answers. Covid infections were over twice as common as flu and over four times as common as RSVβ€”and still have a higher mortality rate than both.
