2023 saw significant improvements in nurses' happiness, job satisfaction, and overall well-being compared to previous years, according to the 2024 State of Nursing report. Compared with 2022, 44% more nurses said they were happy with their choice of profession in 2023 and job satisfaction rose by 64%. Mental health concerns and burnout rates decreased significantly from the height of the pandemic, although staffing levels, pay, and working could still use improvement. Congratulations Geisinger Community Medical Center nurses in Scranton, PA, on your new contracts! Registered nurses and certified registered nurse anesthetists secured the right to file grievances over staffing issues, along with wage increases of 16% over 3 years. Licensed practical nurses, technicians, and degreed professionals will receive back pay for overtime bonus shifts and average wage increases of 11% over 3 years. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants will have a wage scale based on experience and expertise. The deal averts a strike planned for this week.
