Athletic Trainers to Stand in for School Nurses?
|
An Iowa House bill would allow school districts to hire an athletic trainer instead of a nurse to address staffing shortages. Supporters argue athletic trainers are trained in administering
medication, treating seizures, and responding to health issues, while opponents, including disability advocates and school nurses, warn that trainers lack the specialized skills required for students with complex medical needs. The bill passed a subcommittee and is moving forward for further review. What are your thoughts on this?

Biomarker Test to Rule Out Autism |
LinusBioβs Clearstrand-ASD test helps rule out autism in children 1 to 36 months old using a single hair strand. While not diagnostic or FDA-approved, it analyzes metabolic histories (to identify exposure to or metabolism of metals) and is available in 44 states for $2,750. Preliminary dataβnot yet published in a peer-reviewed journalβsuggests 92.5% accuracy, but experts urge further research. The test aims to reduce wait times for autism evaluations and improve early intervention.
