Hey-O Nursing Beat Friends,
Today, Iβm taking you back to ancient Rome for another weird medical practice from history.Β
Rabies. Weβve all heard about it, and maybe youβve even seen a rabid animal in your lifetime. Well, in ancient Rome, if someone was bitten by a rabid animal, the wound was to be cut open and then covered with a raw veal bandage. If that wasnβt weird enough, the patient then had to consume a diet of lime and hog fat, followed by a drink made of wine with boiled badger droppings.Β
While we can praise the ancient Romans for their architectural and engineering feats, Iβm not sure if we can even slow golf clap for their attempts at curative medicine.Β
Big love and even better health,
Kel M.

Every nurse needs a calming, fun activity after a long shift. Coloring can be a great way to detox from a day, and we have two polar opposite options for you to choose from. The first coloring book has funny and relatable quotes and beautiful patterns. The second option is definitely R-rated and not for the faint of heart. So, for all of our sweary nurses out there, this coloring book is for you. One nurse said, βItβs a coloring book of all things nurses want to say but canβt. It is weirdly cathartic and not PC one bit.β

How To Negotiate for Higher Pay!
Consider these strategies when negotiating higher nursing wages:Β
Is this a union position, or is there a clinical ladder? If yes, then there will be a structured pay scale. To ensure receiving the highest pay possible, confirm that the organization is giving you full credit for years of experience, education level, any special certifications or training you may have, etc.Β
Do you have other offers? Sometimes you can leverage other job offers to get higher pay:
Are there other compensation options available? For example, ask if the facility would consider a sign-on bonus, student loan repayment, extra PTO, or funding for additional professional development opportunities.
