After three strikes over the past year and a lawsuit claiming wage theft, nurses at Illinois’ Ascension Saint Joseph-Joliet have landed on a new 3-year
contract. The hard-fought deal includes provisions such as voluntary nurse reassignments, additional paid time off for senior nurses, and a lump sum payment for all nurses. Ascension has refrained from disclosing details until the ratification process is complete, with voting on the contract taking place this month.

Legalizing Psychedelics |
The US appears to be inching towards legalizing psychedelic drugs, if only for medicinal use. In California, legislation aims to permit, under controlled settings supervised by licensed facilitators, the therapeutic use of psychedelics like psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms), MDMA (Ecstasy), and ayahuasca, which have the potential to treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, addiction, and other mental health conditions. The bill faces opposition from law enforcement agencies and hurdles like budget constraints. Meanwhile, an FDA panel is considering legalizing MDMA-assisted therapy to treat PTSD.

Colorectal cancer is increasingly affecting younger populations, with rates rising 185%–500% among adolescents, teens, and young adults over the past two decades. This shift has prompted strong public health concerns, though the total number of cases remains relatively low. Experts emphasize the need for awareness without inducing
panic, highlighting the importance of understanding potential risk factors. Although the cause of this surge remains unclear, research suggests changes to our gut microbiome may be partly to blame. Find out when you should get your first colonoscopy here.

🚩 Do they prioritize well-being? It's totally ok to ask, “Could you describe the hospital's approach to work-life balance?” or, “Are there any programs or benefits aimed at supporting employees' personal lives & overall well-being?”
🚩 Chat with current employees about their experiences—are they content? Bring this up in conversation while you go around the unit.
🚩 Are work expectations realistic or are employees expected to constantly be available or taking on more than is manageable?
🚩 Is leadership even around? How do staff feel about management?
🚩 How much turnover does the unit have?
